For any of you who use joysticks, you may recall them (going out) or in other words the twist function (Z-axis) begins to irrationally and randomly spike left or right. This usually frustrates the Heck out of you, your aim becomes garbage, and in turn you contact the manufacturer only to discover that it will cost you as much to have it repaired as a new unit costs- At which point you slaMM your hands down on your desk spilling your Diet Rite soda and crushing your newest Mechwarrior miniature.
- This happens to me all the time. You too right!? hmm... *glances left and right.* hmmmmm....
Never fear, you have another option. You can repair it yourself for only a few hours of your procrastinated time. The thingy, technical term "Potentiometer" is what is causing the spiking. It's probably just dirty/ loose, or worn out a bit. The lifespan of standard (thingy's) is around 2 Million cycles, ... how long have you been playing mechwarrior?
Open your joystick handle and find the potentiometer. Search Google images (potentiometer), you'll find what you're looking for. Open stick handle, find potentiometer, and give it a good blowing off with one of those compressed air cans, and wipe gently with a Q-tip. you can test your joystick in windows even while its in pieces. just be gentle. If the potentiometer is indeed faulty, replace it for 2-4 dollars. find potentiometers online from places like: www.maplin.co.uk/searchpages/JOYSTICK_POTENTIOMETER.htm
- And good times were had by all.
